Basic Bike and Build Info

So I am on the verge of graduating college and entering the wide world of being a real person, but before I take that step and embark on that adventure there are some other adventures I would like to have.  I have found an amazing opportunity in the medium of a trip across the country over 2 months all on my bicycle.

The trip, called Bike and Build, will consist of myself as well as about 30 others riding from Boston to Santa Barbara.  There are also 7 other routes that other groups of 30 will be taking this summer, so there will be about 240 young adults pedaling across this country to help and raise awareness for the affordable housing issue.  All of those participating in the trip will stop along the way to talk to the communities we will be staying in to help and educate those who don't know about the affordable housing issue.  At a number of different cities along my route we will stop to help and build some of these affordable houses we are working to raise money and awareness for with local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together.  Needless to say I am extremely excited for this coming summer and all of the challenges and experiences it will bring.

In order to be able to experience this incredible opportunity that Bike and Build has afforded me I have to raise $4,000.  The proceeds of this trip will be used to support youth driven affordable housing initiatives, with the main benefactors being in Columbus, OH and Boston.

This Winter and Spring I will be working hard training, learning about the affordable housing issue, and of course building houses.  I have enclosed a brochure about the trip so you can learn more about it.   I would also like you to take a look at the bike and build website (www.bikeandbuild.org) where you can read more about bike and build as well as see blogs and photos from previous trips and all the rider profiles for this year, including mine where you will also find a link to the blog I will keep throughout the training process and trip.  You can also get there from this address:  http://robbysbikeadventure.blogspot.com.    To donate either send a check in the pre-addressed envelope with the slip from the brochure filled out and with my name in the memo line of the check or you can donate online at the bike and build website.  Just make sure you select my name from the drop down menu on the donation page.

I am so excited to traverse this great country in such a personal way.  I will keep you all up to date on my blog, available through my rider profile on the bike and build website. Thank you in advance for your support in my endeavor to participate in this amazing opportunity.

Sorry for the extended Hiatus

So I survived the holidays and was even able to be a little productive, finally getting my letter finalized that I will sending out to many of you.  I am now in Chicago on the verge of busy season here with PwC where I am interning.  I have yet to send out any letters asking for money, so I'm starting to freak out a little bit, what with my life only getting more and more hectic in the coming months working probably about 60 hours a week.  I have started training a little more rigoursly here in Chicago though.  We have a gym on the 25th floor of the apartment complex I am living in, so that should make things a little easier.

I hope to start sending out at least 20 letters a week while I am here, and that is hopefully a conservative estimate.  I suppose life is just a grand adventure and the next 3/4 of this year shall truly be that.  Its all so exciting and all so scary!  That is all for now, I have to get on these here letters, but hopefully more later if I have time over the next few months.  Cheers all!
